The island is just over 7 kilometers and is narrow, the minimum point, only about 200 meters. Its crescent shape along the famous beach of Chiaia di Luna, does it also define the island crescent. When leaving the ships you are in Ponza town or harbor where are concentrated all the main services and activities of the island. The island is characterized by a little urbanization leaving large areas completely covered by Mediterranean scrub. For this characteristic, the European Union has included the island of Ponza in the project Natura 2000. The whole territory is SCI, Site of Community Importance and SPA, Special Protection Area. Moreover, for some years, Legambiente and Italian Touring Club assign 4 sails for the high quality of the sea.
