Island of Palmarola
The island of Palmarola is definitely something not to be missed if you come to Ponza. The island is protected nature reserve and the human presence is limited to the “harbor bay.” This bay is not a real port but it is where you can get down on the pebble beach and where there is a restaurant and houses caves. The island was once inhabited in the summer months to be almost entirely cultivated. Now the Mediterranean covers the whole territory. Palmarola owes its name to the widespread use, on its territory, of dwarf palm (Chamaerops humilis).
You can reach it either on their own, renting a boat or a raft, and with an organized tour.
